On Saturday September 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. Amanda C. Burdan, associate curator at the Brandywine River Museum of Art will discuss several paintings depicting the historic Barns-Brinton House (circa 1714) in Chadds Ford. The house is owned by the Chadds Ford Historical Society, which acted over 40 years ago to protect the structure from demolition and preserve its historic significance. The home was a subject for an important work by famous local artist Barclay Rubincam in his iconic painting “Hessians Marching Past the Barns-Brinton House at the Battle of Brandywine” (1976). Numerous artists over the decades have showcased this structure and its delicate beauty. This presentation will highlight several of those artists and their work. Following the lecture, members of the Chadds Ford Historical Society will serve complimentary tea and cookies for guests attending the lecture.
